Introduction to Junior Tennis
Just getting started? Crosscourt Consulting will educate you on the pathways and options to launching your child’s tennis journey.
Whether your child is just starting to compete or he/she is a veteran player, Crosscourt Consulting can assist you in creating a dynamic and goal driven tournament plan.
Crosscourt Consulting will work directly with your child’s private coach or training program coaches to write a developmental plan. A developmental plan is a set of objectives and goals that addresses a player’s technical, tactical, physical, emotional, and mental skills. The plan creates a pathway and measurable objectives to help the player, coaches and family reach the goals set forth.
A periodization plan/schedule is coordinated with a player’s developmental plan. Combined, they define training weeks, pre-competition weeks, competition phases, rest, and can include additional resources that the athlete may need to be exposed to as expressed in their developmental plan.
To understand a players tennis knowledge and thought process, we use a tool called Concept Mapping. Concept Mapping begins with an in depth interview of the athletes understanding of their own game. Through the interview process, we are able gain knowledge of the athletes thoughts and understanding of their own game. This process is applied to the players tactical and strategic concepts, mental fitness and technical game.
The information gathered is then expressed with an external map through a software program demonstrating correct and incorrect concepts the player articulates about their own game. All the information contained in the maps are the players own thoughts, feeling and actions. Once a players map is constructed, we then review the players concepts and make adjustment as needed.
This information is shared with the players private coach so he/she can gain a deeper insight to the players thoughts, feelings and actions. Concept Mapping illuminates the learning process, and expands upon the rote learning model of memorization, to create a “Meaningful Learning” model.
